Sushi Uogashi
Although there are already enough sushi places in Central, we can always welcome another one. Sushi Uogashi is a newly opened joint serving authentic sushi, and is a good hideaway from nearby Lan Kwai Fong, although it is maybe so low-key that people will hardly notice its existence on the eighth floor of this new commercial building. It’s pretty tiny, holding around 30 people, but the elegant Japanese-style décor makes the restaurants feel homey and cozy. We chose “autumn” from their four seasons salad series but it was a big disappointment—a few pearls of salmon roe, a couple lettuce leaves and nothing more. But we didn’t give up. We tried salmon sashimi prepared in four ways which involved chopped salmon being served with different dressings—creative and not bad. Classics such as shrimp sushi, California rolls and eel sushi were all competent, thanks to the quality of the seafood. The highlights were the real crabmeat sushi (not surimi crabsticks) and uni (sea urchin) sushi, which were both tasty but a little over-priced ($276 for four pieces of uni). With good service, typical Japanese ambiance and adequate food made with creativity, Sushi Uogashi is a decent spot to dine although it lacks that wow factor.
