The Pantray is a causal version of restaurant chain Stonegrill. The décor speaks volumes: the brick wall, the bright yet warm lighting and high ceiling create an inviting atmosphere for friends to gather. The menu is quite extensive, featuring all-day breakfast, burgers, pasta and steak. Yet, there aren’t many choices in each category. To test the restaurant’s authenticity we ordered the Swiss potato soup to start. It turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the day because it tasted as if it was straight from a can. We also selected the all-day breakfast and a mini burger set to see whether the Pantray could be a destination for Sunday morning hangover brunch. Again, we were not very satisfied. For the all-day breakfast, you may choose six items from a list of nine. We asked for veal and pork sausages, but received two identical-looking sausages. We believe both of them were pork—they tasted exactly the same. The waiter insisted that they were different (as if we have color-blindness or malfunctioning taste buds). As for the three mini-burgers in the set—Kobi beef, foie gras and salmon—were all tasty but unfortunately arrived a bit cold. The only redeeming features of the meal were the eggs benedict with the runny yolk, and the authentic croissants. But at this price we’re quite sure there are plenty of better alternatives.
