Loud, brash, bold and wildly popular. You can’t claim to be an aficionado of local dining if you haven’t been to Tsui Wah. Perhaps one of Hong Kong’s best – and busiest – quick-service restaurants, Tsui Wah offers good, innovative food at reasonable prices. It may charge a bit more than the average HK diner, but given the consistent quality of its singular dishes and the extensive menu, those few extra dollars are well spent. In true pioneering spirit, Tsui Wah also regularly updates its menu, incorporating new items frequently while eliminating others. Some of its more successful culinary creations include the fish-essence soup and the pork cartilage with noodles – succulent, but not for the faint of heart. Also try the fish dumplings or the fish balls, as seafood is one of Tsui Wah’s specialties. Other not-to-miss items include the aromatic Chinesestyle curries, Hainan chicken rice and the satay beef slices with noodles in soup. Complete your meal with a sugary cup of condensed milk tea or a yin yueng, a milky mix of coffee and tea. Tsui Wah is also a great place for celebrity spotting, but don’t expect fancy decor – the design here is decidedly simple and practical. Some might find the place a bit too brightly lit, particularly for self-conscious partiers looking a bit weary after staying out all night – but that doesn’t stop them from coming. Its late-night serving hours make Tsui Wah an ideal pit stop if you're out late.
