The experience of Pho Saigon is much like the dish, comprised of many merged ingredients and flavors – including an eclectic mix of people, an East-meets- West management, warm, clean and simple decor and traditional Vietnamese food, done well. Run by affable Australian-Vietnamese brothers, Pho Saigon relies on the basics, serving up good, affordable dishes in an unpretentious environment. Although not the most elegant of venues, its focus is on the things that matter most – authentic Vietnamese food, as evidenced by the amount of Vietnamese present on any given night. Think no-frills noodles, packed with fresh green herbs; rudimentary yet tasty spring rolls; and spicy yet refreshing king prawn salads. Of course a visit here wouldn’t be complete without trying the signature beef pho, which arrives as a chunky noodle soup with generous scatterings of meat. At lunchtime the place is heaving with locals, while dinnertime is reserved for the real fans. Regulars swear by this place, coming back time after time for the same consistent quality and fantastically friendly service - maintaining that this is the best Vietnamese restaurant in the city.
