This unpretentious French restaurant was one of SoHo's "pioneers," set up at a time when there were few other eateries in the area. The entrance is deceptively small, but once inside there is a spacious inner area with lots of tables, some of them able to seat more than 12. The dim lighting and friendly service make this is a great place for a date, which explains why on the night we went the place was full of romantic couples. For starters we had escargots in garlic and parsley sauce (12 for $110), which were delicious, and the chicken crepes ($90), which came in a rich and creamy mushroom sauce. For the main course we chose the Tournedos Rossini ($210). The slices of beef were wonderfully thick, but if you want them medium-rare ask for medium. It went well with the other main dish we tried, the roasted quails in peppercorn sauce ($155). Do save room at the end of the meal for the delicious souffle ($75) which comes in three flavors: chocolate, vanilla and Grand Marnier.
