If it wasn’t for the trashy décor (it looks a bit like a naff hair salon with a ceiling full of fake chandeliers) and greenhorn staff (friendly though), we might have promoted this newly opened café to our four-star rating. It was the fame of Delta, a renowned Portuguese coffee brand that lured us down there to try a cup alongside some Portuguese tapas and mains. Atmosphere-wise, there is nothing to suggest this is a Portuguese-style restaurant, but there is a general Mediterranean mood. The menu is a mix of Portuguese, Spanish and Italian, together with some general Western dishes like rack of lamb with rosemary. For tapas, we went for bruschetta with tomatoes and anchovies, and sautéed calamari with onion and garlic. The toast snack was unexpectedly tasty and we liked the taste of lime and piri-piri in the squid sauce. As for the main, their Portuguese chicken will probably be unusual to most Hong Kongers—the chicken and vegetables are stewed in a tomato broth, instead of the thick yellow sauce we normally see—but the meat was tender and the squishy skin was lovely. Overall we would definitely recommend this place, as long as you don’t mind the tacky decor.
