Despite the unfortunate location in a drab commercial building, Wings tries hard to separate itself from the hundreds of upstairs cafes that dominate Causeway Bay. The faux leather sofas and pretentious chandeliers certainly create an unusual ambience, but it wasn’t quite enough to distract us from the comings and goings of the busy streets below. Our dishes arrived half the size we expected them to be, although fortunately, quality made up for it. The roasted miso cod with baby eggplant was a fine execution of Japanese-meets-French cuisine, but the squid ink pasta in vodka cream sauce disappointed with its overcooked lobster. Dessert was disappointing, given the prices. We expected a molten chocolate cake but were presented with an overcooked regular chocolate cake with a dollop of Dairy Farm ice cream on top. However, the most unappetizing part of the meal were the Cantopop tunes that were being blasted over the sound system entire time. It’s great to see one of these upstairs cafes try to kick the food up a notch, but Wings isn’t quite there yet.
