How do we even begin to sum up our experience at this restaurant? Let’s just say that if we could give a no-star review, we would.
Agave Tequila Y Comida serves mediocre food, extortionately priced drinks, and also has terrible, terrible service. The old Wan Chai staple on Lockhart Road has been around since forever, and we decided to venture there on a weeknight.
To start things off, we ordered some nachos and pitchers of margaritas to share. Granted, we were a large group, but when you find yourself asking for the third time to check up on the TAP WATER you ordered, it’s far from an ideal situation.
We decided to share two appetizers—chicken quesadillas, fried calamari, and a main course of chicken burrito. The chicken quesadillas were pretty forgettable. The filling was, for some reason, dripping wet—which is not very convenient when the waitresses don’t give you plates to eat them on. The fried calamari was described by a fellow diner as something that “literally just crawled out of the ocean,” and not in a good way. It was slippery, rubbery and had no flavor whatsoever. The chicken burrito came with generous helpings of refried beans, guacamole and sour cream, but this does nothing to make up for the lack of quality of the dish itself—the chicken was mixed in with an unidentifiable sauce, presumably to mask its dryness.
The margarita pitcher was so average that it wasn’t worth the $320 price tag. Ay, caramba!
