Maya is a Sanskrit word that means “illusion,” and it seems only fitting for this gem, which is truly a sight for sore eyes on the Wan Chai strip. The interior is sleek, beautiful and design-minded: striking contrast comes from the black and white abstract patterns on the walls and the bright red bar and twin red oriental arches that reach up to unbelievably tall ceilings. Give thanks to the god of wine because drink deals are plentiful all day and all week. Happy hour is noon-3pm, the aptly named “relaxing hour” is 3pm-6pm when all drinks (including cocktails) are $25, and from 6pm-9pm all drinks are two-for-one. Signature drinks include the “Nirvana” – Kahlua, Bailey’s and fresh banana - and the lychee and mint martini. Wednesdays are a combination Ladies’ and Bollywood night where the laydeez have the choice of drinking (or downing) free house spirits or the Bombay Smash cocktail, which “makes like a snake and bites.” The extensive food menu includes full English breakfasts, and Indian, Spanish and Thai favorites.
