Known for Chinese aesthetics and flourishes creatively reinterpreted for the modern shopper, homegrown luxury label Shanghai Tang is the epitome of Hong Kong chic. Its brand-new flagship finally opened its doors last month, after the brand was elbowed out of the much-loved Art Deco space on Pedder Street that it had called home for 17 years. Luckily, the new Shanghai Tang Mansion lives up to its predecessor. It’s a stunning piece of artistic design and a destination in itself—a meticulously decorated store sprinkled with beautiful craftsmanship and a great go-to for hip Chinoiserie.
Keeping in line with Shanghai Tang’s unique way of blending traditional Chinese elements with contemporary style, the 15,000-square-meter shop welcomes customers with a custom-made crystal chandelier that symbolizes longevity. Each area of the store is also characterized by distinct symbols.
The women’s section has curved lines; the men’s spacious section reimagines a gentlemen’s club. Don’t forget to admire the hand-painted changing rooms. Everything Shanghai Tang can be found in this flagship store: clothes and pajamas for your kid in the children’s area; signature scents in the Fragrance Bar; luxurious tableware and bed linens in the home section; tailor-made cheongsams, gowns and suits in Imperial Tailoring Atelier. Even most of the furniture scattered throughout the store is for sale.
