The buzz: The uber popular Korean-owned, LA-based clothing store previews three floors of what will be the go-to shopping spot for fashionistas looking to save—a lot. Arriving in our shopping-crazed city shortly after Gap and 3.1 Phillip Lim, Forever 21 joins the “racks” of western brands gradually taking over Hong Kong’s fashion landscape.
The décor: Shoppers enjoy a clean and easy-to-move-around venue, but until the remaining three floors are completed, the actual floor plan is slightly different than the printed floor plan posted next to the escalators. The simple interior puts the focus on the constantly updated items on display.
The goods: For the next few months, shoppers can whet their palettes with Forever 21’s featured trend: “retro revival.” The comfortable and stylish items are reminiscent of the bold and bright colors, flirty materials, higher necklines and polka dots of summertime in the 60s. Other standout items include a faux-leather dress, lace-up booties, the trendiest accessories and girly tops for every occasion. Many of the initial shoppers will have frequented (and fallen in love with) the American, European, Korean and Japanese stores but with the amazingly low prices, convenient location and the brand’s aim to live up to its motto of “fast, fun and affordable fashion,” there is no doubt Hongkongers will quickly fall in love with the soon-to-be six-story shopper’s paradise. Stay tuned for the grand opening in the spring, when menswear and more accessories, shoes and clothing lines will become available.
