HK Magazine: What’s to like about running?
Yen Wan: It’s just an amazing feeling. When you hit that mental barrier, and then you break it, it’s like you can go on forever. Nothing beats that feeling. Well, meditating in the Himalayas beats it but that’s another story.
HK: What was your longest run?
YW: The Trail Walker 2003, the four of us ran and walked for 20 hours and 30 minutes. That was grueling. I don’t know how I kept going, but there had to be a reason- maybe it was the medal. We came in second.
HK: What do you need to know about running?
YW: Well, one of the downsides of running is that you really have to be committed. If you miss a week, it’s still good, but you’re just not as fast and it takes a while for you to catch up again. So don’t miss a practice.
HK: What do you think about the club?
YW: It’s the best. Don’t let the name fool you - we have lots of male members. Everyone is really supportive, even though I’m not that fast.
HK: What kind of guys do you like?
YW: Without a doubt, hands down, guys who can catch up with me.
