WTF?! July 3, 2009
July 3rd, 2009Work? We’ve got lines to learn! - Two airlines owned by gaming tycoon Stanley Ho have been criticized for asking pilots and flight attendants to memorize a 10-line creed about company values. Staff were told they would be punished if they failed to recite it at surprise spot checks. According to news agency DPA, the management of Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Express issued a memo calling the creed an “apothegm.” It included phrases like “Perseverance is the rule to sturdy progress,” “Diligence leads research to accession of knowledge,” and “Kindliness to youth endows the superior with virtue.” A pilot claims flight attendants were worried the management might be using the apothegm to get rid of staff, and said that instead of performing their duties, they tried to memorize the phrases using cards. The airlines swiftly removed the order after they received complaints.
