WTF?! January 5, 2010
February 5th, 2010The police are going political - Theoretically, all civil servants should be politically objective, so it is quite upsetting to see the latest issue of the police newsletter “Off Beat,” where a new section has appeared indirectly demonizing the protesters who got into scuffles with the police during the anti-high-speed rail protests. The magazine ran thank you letters supposedly from members of the public, all of which used inaccurate and biased terms such as “provoking,” “unfair demands on the police,” “riots,” and “rash” to describe the protesters and their actions. One letter-writer even compared the protesters to rioters on Nathan Road in 1984, where shops were vandalized and set on fire and 150 people were arrested. What a silly comparison. Shame on you, prolific letter-writers to the obscure police journal “Off Beat”...
