Sup and Spa

Spas these days offer so much more than just massages and facials. Johannes Pong gets a taste of what else is on the menu.
The Spa at the Four Seasons
Executive Escape at the Four Seasons offers a 45-minute spa treatment/break from your hectic office (back, neck and shoulder massage; or a mini-facial and a nourishing hand or foot treatment) with a light lunch served at their stunning Pool Terrace.
For workaholics who can’t escape their desk for too long, lunch can be packed to take away. Let coworkers drool with envy at your pan-fried salmon, a Mediterranean delight of hummus, baba ghanoush and lentil salad; or a sumptuous Alaskan crab and avocado sandwich with salsa verde and butter sauce.
If that doesn’t get the office bitches hating, try desserts like oven-baked fresh figs with honeycomb and orange yogurt sauce, or a grilled pineapple with light fromage blanc sorbet and chestnut honey. This package is available Monday to Friday, 11:30am-3:30pm, for $780.

The Peninsula Spa by ESPA
Peninsula spa meals come from all of the hotel’s restaurants.
An “NP” sign on the various menus stands for “Naturally Peninsula” and denotes a light, healthy item, perfect for easy digestion after a detoxifying treatment. You can order Chinese from Spring Moon, such as the roasted duck with kiwi in orange sauce, or braised superior bird’s nest stuffed in bamboo fungus.
Alternatively, western dishes from the Verandah include the slow-baked milk-fed veal medallions and baby vegetables in truffle jus, or wholewheat pasta and mesclun salad with crumbled blue cheese, sunflower seeds and walnut vinaigrette. The Lobby offers international favorites such as miso broth with salmon fillet, fine somen noodles, shiitake mushrooms and pumpkin.
All full-day spa journeys, half-day spa journeys and the Weekday Spa Escape come with a Naturally Peninsula meal.
The Experience at The Peninsula deal costs $1,600 and is available Monday to Friday (except public holidays) until February 28. It offers full use of the spa facilities, a soothing facial (60 minutes), deep cleansing back massage (50 minutes) and choice of meal by their Roman-style pool.

Chuan Spa
The Journey Package at Chuan begins with you and your loved one in a limo as it shuttles you to your private check-in at a Chuan Residence (Infinity Suite $8,399, Nirvana Studio, $7,799, Serenity Room $7,199). There, a Traditional Chinese Medicine consultant will tell you which of your five Chinese elements (metal, wood, water, fire, earth) is out of whack. The essential oils and incense you then inhale and the tea you drink are tailored to rebalance your lacking element. You’ll have full access to the spa’s facilities, including the fitness studio and rooftop heated swimming pool, as well as Langham Hotel Club perks including breakfast and cocktails.
Three hours of therapeutic bliss (spa treatments of your choice) later, your bespoke Chuan meal will arrive. Try the poached lobster on three-bean salad with shredded seaweed, Sally’s TCM five element soup, or the chicken supreme en papiliote with vegetables and herbs. The fruit served will be according to your element.

The all-day menu offers tantalizing dishes such as seared scallops on avocado with lime coulis, grapefruit and walnut oil, or beef carpaccio with arugula and pine nuts.
