January 29th, 2010Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
Back in my native U.K. we have a shop called the co-op, which specializes in fair-trade groceries and products that provide a fair working environment for the people on the manufacturing end of things. So far I haven’t been able to find an equivalent here, besides chichi organic stores such as Three-Sixty. Where can I get Fairtrade products in Hong Kong?
—Green Gobblin’
Whatever helps you sleep at night you freaking hippie. Fair Taste (Flat 506, 5/F, Manley Commercial Building, 367-375 Queen’s Rd. Central, Sheung Wan, 2805-2336, www.fairtaste.org) offers tons of Fairtrade certified products, including teas, coffee, Divine brand chocolate, breakfast cereals and health foods. Check the website for the stories behind each of the products, so you can really see who your money is going.
Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
I’m looking for something called a “garlic card.” It’s a plastic card, and you basically rub cloves of garlic up and down on it and it’ll be perfectly minced and ready for cooking. I bought one when I was in Germany but it’s starting to look a little old and warn. Are they available in Hong Kong at all? Please say they are!
—Stinky Breath
You’re in luck, stinky. The garlic card you’re looking for is available in (surprise surprise) kitchen supply store I Love Kitchen (G/F, 1 Leighton Rd., Causeway Bay, 2572-0009). Try carrying it around in your wallet to help ward off vampires.
