January 22nd, 2010Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
Do you know of any place where I can take handbags for cleaning? I have two bags in mind: one in nubuck and the other in leather with metal details, so I know it won’t be an easy job. They are my go-to favorites, but what with the talk of the bacteria count of ladies’ handbags, theses two really need a cleaning! Please help.
Baggie Blues
Mr.Know-It-All has just what you’re looking for as always. Clean Living (2334-0896, www.cleanliving.com.hk) has several shops across Hong Kong and offers a very good nubuck and leather cleaning service for handbags. Just take them your bags and they’ll give you a quote for the cleaning depending on the condition of your bags. It usually takes around 14 days so you may want to do one at a time so as not to be without them both! There’s a free pick up and delivery service or you can head down to Shop 2A, 2/F, Entertainment Bldg, 30 Queen’s Rd. Central, 2868-3669.
Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
I bought some Chinese-style wooden armchairs and couches with cushions about ten years ago. The wood is in very good condition, but the cushions are so badly worn that I cannot use them any more. I tried to get new ones from the furniture shop that sold me the chairs, but was told they came in one whole set so they can’t sell me just the cushions. Long story short, so I have been looking around for someone who can make new cushions or tailor-made new cushion cases, but to avail.
Worn out
Mr. KIA likes your style. Why not give Yue Wa Chinese Emporium (301-309 Nathan Rd., Jordan, 3511-2222) a go first to see if you can find anything that fits amongst their Chinese-style cushion covers collection. Alternatively, try Ka Ying Curtains (28 Man Nin St., Sai Kung, 2791-4796) where available fabrics can be used to tailor-make your cushions or you can bring your own material for them to use. The best way is to bring a sample cushion along to the store where the very helpful Veronica will assist you in choosing fabrics and giving you a quotation straight away.
