December 5th, 2008

Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
My friend and her kids are coming to town for a holiday. Where can I find strollers for hire?
A Caring Friend

Your friend and her kids are lucky to have such a thoughtful pal. The English Speaking Members Department of the Hong Kong YWCA (3/F, 1 MacDonnell Rd., Central, 3476-1340) has a small range of baby equipment available for short-term hire, including strollers, car seats, portable cots, high chairs and playpens. They charge $50 per item/per week. Feel free to check out their collection before you hire.

Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
I saw on the net that Juicy Couture has produced its own version of Monopoly. Is this available in Hong Kong? And if so, where can I find it?
Juicy Girl

You’re in luck my friend, because Juicy Couture has recently restocked their bespoke version of Monopoly. Visit one of their stores, including Shop 317, 3/F, Times Square, 1 Matheson St., Causeway Bay, 2118-2980.

Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
Where can I find a decent mahjong set on Hong Kong Island?
Mahjong Mom

To me, mahjong is imcomprehensible—I’d rather get a tooth pulled than play, but I know there are plenty of mahjong fiends who would disagree. For sets that won’t break the bank, check out Japan Home Centre (Shop B-C, G/F, 128 Wellington St., Central, 2815-0434). If you fancy something more stylish, head to Wing Wah Mahjong and Ivory Wares (160 Queen’s Rd. Central, Sheung Wan, 2545-0805), which stocks beautiful decorative ivory sets.

Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
where in TST or HK can I find a beauty salon that does Guinot Hydradermie and Hydralift facials?
Lift-me-up

Trying to turn back the clock? The Spa at Mandarin Oriental (5 Connaught Rd., Central, 2825-4888) offers Hydradermie and Hydralift facials using the traditional Guinot methods developed by a renowned French chemist more than 40 years ago. Both facials last approximately 1.5 hours and will set you back $1300.
