Mr. Know-It-All, December 26, 2008
December 26th, 2008I’m sick and tired of going out and drinking too much at the weekend, and as I approach the big 3-0, my new year’s resolution is to spend more time engaging in more wholesome activities, such as hosting board game parties. I tried Toys-R-Us for games, but they’ll all geared towards kids. My question is: where can I find a decent selection of board games for adults?
Board Stiff
Woah there, Board Stiff. You’ll have someone’s eye out if you keep up with that crazy talk. But give me a chance to tell you where to buy new games before you shiv me in the leg with the corner of your Monopoly board. You can find grown-up board games in Toy Museum (Shop 320, Princes Building, 10 Chater Rd., Central, 2869-9138). All the usual suspects are there, including Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit and my personal favorite, Pictionary. For lesser-known, German-made board games, try Jolly Thinkers (14/F, Capricorn Centre, 155 Sai Yeung Choi St. North, Mong Kok, 6433-7345, www.jollythinkers.com), which stocks the so-called “killer app” of board games: Settlers of Catan. Shop online or visit their store. Oh, and in case you were thinking about inviting me to your bored—sorry, board game bonanza—I can tell you right now that I’ll be washing my hair that night.
Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
Where can I find resources for scrapbooking? I’m in particular looking for albums, scrapbook materials and other cute stuff.
In a Bind
What’s with all the nerds writing in this week? What happened to “Mr. Know-It-All, where can I buy a flamethrower?” or “Mr. Know-It-All, how do you kill a man with just two fingers?” And they’re not just nerds either; they’re lazy nerds. Any fancy stationery shop such as Prints (3/F, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, 2175-5018) does scrap books and all the accoutrements that come with them. They cost anywhere between $100-$499, but if you want a cheaper book and a wider selection of “cute stuff” as you call it, then try Spotlight (Megabox, 38 Wang Chiu Rd., Kowloon Bay, 2359-0010), which has stickers, frames and all sort of fluffy bits and bobs.
