Mint & Lemongrass
Mint & Lemongrass
January 2nd, 2009
The buzz: A quaint new bar and bistro on Staunton, brought to you by the trendy boutique across the street of the same name.
The décor: The bar is upstairs, the restaurant downstairs. An alfresco corridor links two separate dining rooms, one with a nice brick wall. As far as décor goes, think simple minimalism with clean Vietnamese paintings.
The food: French-Vietnamese, leaning more heavily to the former. Look for all the usual suspects, such as Ho Chi Minh–style prawn cakes, spring rolls, and spicy sausages with baby onions alongside more interesting fare like smoked salmon and quail eggs with corn beef fritters. And like any self-respecting quasi-Viet place these days, they’ve brought the Wagyu—go for the Wagyu beef tail braised in tomato sauce and red wine.
The drinks: Vietnamese-inspired cocktails with Southeast Asian herbs such as, say just for example, mint and lemongrass.
Why you’ll be back: You just can’t get enough of that high-end Vietnamese in SoHo.
49 Staunton St., Central, 2803-2253.
