Spooked on Lamma
On Halloween night, the police raid the pubs on Lamma Island and arrest 10 people. They are aged between 19 and 67 years old and hail from Britain, Australia and the Philippines. Among them, three are drug dealers, two are drug users, the eldest is charged with possession and the youngest for trying to stop officers from arresting his father. The rest are pub owners that allowed customers to smoke indoors. The total haul amounts to 130 grams of marijuana and 30 grams of cocaine.

Drug Lessons
Nearly 70 percent of teachers lack confidence in the drug test program in schools and say they don’t know how to identify different drugs. This is according to a survey by the Hong Kong Education Policy Concern Organization and the Hong Kong Women Teachers’ Association. About 80 percent agree teenage drug abuse is a very serious problem but half do not trust themselves to perform the drug test The chairman of the association urges the Education Bureau to do more consultations with frontline teachers and help them come to a better understanding of drugs.

Poisoned Dogs
Police report that 11 dogs have died overnight in a village in Tai Po. It’s suspected they’ve accidentally eaten food mixed with rat poison.

Don’t Chop My Balls
A few minutes before neutering surgery, a supposedly anesthetized Siberian husky bites a vet and nurse. They suffer from mild injuries and are sent to hospital. The three-year-old dog is detained by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.

The Hong Kong Geopark is officially opened. It features eight sites including High Island and Ninepin Island, which together form the world’s largest “hexagonal columnar jointed tuff,” and the city’s oldest and youngest rocks.

A public opinion poll conducted by the University of Hong Kong shows that the popularity of Chief Executive Donald Tsang has dropped to 35 percent.

Violence in the Launderette
A 67-year-old man goes to wash his clothes at his favorite launderette and is beaten up by the owner’s son. He is a regular customer and does his laundry there once a week. At 10:30am, he arrives as usual and points to the scale to show he wants the cleaning service. But this act provokes the owner’s son who has a history of mental illness. It takes five policeman to arrest him.
