Classified Mozzarella Bar

Classified Mozzarella Bar

October 31st, 2008

The buzz: The latest offering from the Press Room group, this small wine and cheese shop offers fresh artisan mozzarella from Italy as well as a selection of other cheeses from their Sheung Wan fromagerie.

The décor: A rustic, canteen-style setup with two large communal tables, tiled floors and daily specials scrawled on chalk boards.

The food: The focus is on the super fresh mozzarella flown in from Puglia and Naples, with different varieties including burrata, boccocini and buffalo. The bacon-wrapped deep-fried mozzarella with fig jam is a heart-stopping must-try. Other adventurous dishes include a caprese salad made of basil, tomato and mozzarella flavored ice cream.

The drinks: Over 150 wines, 70 percent of which are Italian to complement the Mediterranean menu. Over 15 varieties are sold by the glass.

Why you’ll be back: On Tuesdays and Fridays when the cheese is delivered you can try fresh mozzarella with specially matched tomatoes (they have over five varieties every day), homemade garlic and chili flatbread.

31 Wing Fung St., Wan Chai, 2528-3454.

Review

Unfortunately the food was a complete disappointment. We tried the Mandara salad, asparagus with parma ham, and other less than authentic dishes such as their pasta. 360 makes better salads and pastas! Extremely limited vegetarian selection; management didnt go above and beyond to accomodate. And finally the small portions left us hungry - you're only as good as your last meal and I am never going back! For fellow gastronomers, save your money!!!
