Cali Cali

Cali Cali

October 3rd, 2008

The buzz: The latest addition to the rapidly changing face of Hart Avenue, this elegant California-themed jazz and wine lounge offers a welcome reprieve from the area’s traditional mix of karaoke bars and dice pubs.

The décor: Cozy and comfortable, with warm colors and plush furnishings—the bar area features a series of long, velvety beige sofas and fancy light-up drink rests.

The drinks: The name says it all; at least as far as the wine list goes. Choose from Napa Valley Rieslings to central coast cabernets with up to ten by-the-glass varieties on offer. For something harder, there’s also a selection of classic Golden State cocktails on hand, from the menacing Adios M.F. (vodka, rum, tequila) to the house favorite, pomegranate margarita.

The crowd: It’s mostly a haven for artist and musician types so far, though the corporate crowd is fast catching on. Happy hour is 5pm-9pm, but don’t expect a full house till well into the evening.

The music: Live jazz quartets perform weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with hip-hop and soulful house DJs making regular appearances on weekends.

Why you’ll come back: It’s a heck of a lot closer than L.A. Rick Gangwani
