A highlight of the ongoing celebrations in honor of the Centenerary of the 1911 Revolution, "Dr. Sun Yat-sen" is an opera of three acts that centers on the romance between Dr. Sun and his wife, Soong Ching-ling (of the revered Soong sisters). Conceived by Opera Hong Kong in collaboration with the New York City Opera's VOX program, this original piece is set to premiere in Beijing to wide acclaim. Though sung in Putonghua, there are spoken excerpts in English; the performance also combines elements from both Eastern and Western operas, resulting in a unique a cross-cultural fusion.

I Maestri is a group of seasoned opera maestros from Korea, described by fans as a "voice orchestra"—no mere mortal choir here. The men will take to the stage at the Asia Society for a night of exquisite vocal talent, performing a repertoire of Korean folk music, classical opera and Broadway tunes. One of Richard Strauss's most celebrated operas, "Salome," is being performed as a co-production by the Slovenian National Theatre Opera, Ballet Ljubljana, and Opera Hong Kong. It's known for its erotic Dance of the Seven Veils, and the final scene in which Salome sings to the severed head of John the Baptist, before kissing it on the lips. The show will contain nudity. Mmm… it's basically highbrow HBO.
