Island East Markets is making a return this year, following its massive success when it launched in 2012. Held every Sunday (except Feb 10), you can take your pick from over 50 stalls carrying local or organic produce and handmade crafts. Live music and cooking demonstrations will both entertain and educate, and don’t forget to watch out for the Chinese New Year lion dances on February 3.

Hidden Agenda is doing things a little differently at the Sunday Agenda February Carnival. The indie gig venue will be turned into a space that boasts more than just live music. Expect film screenings, DIY craft stalls and food courtesy of post-rock band Tfvsjs, whose members also run a cafe. There's also a sale of secondhand goods that belong to the bands. Price TBA

What better way to see in the Year of the Horse than with a visit to the various flower markets around town? The biggest ones are in Victoria and Fa Hui Parks. As it’s Chinese New Year’s Eve, the markets won’t close until 6am. Floral party time!
